Who We Are

After emigrating from Poland in the late 19th century, Joseph met his wife, Jennie Wohl, an immigrant from Hungary, and settled in Wilkes-Barre. There they ran the Rosenn General Store and helped establish Congregation Ohev Zedek. They instilled in their children and grandchildren a lasting commitment to faith, family, and community—values that continue to guide the Foundation’s mission today.

That legacy was carried forward by Judge Max Rosenn and his wife, Tillie. Judge Rosenn served his country in World War II, practiced law in Wilkes-Barre, and later became a federal judge on the United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals, where he was known for fairness, humility, and integrity. Tillie shared his devotion to education, culture, and civic life, helping to strengthen the region they cherished.

Guided by these values, the Rosenn Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was created in 1991 by Max Rosenn, his brother, Harold, and Max's sons, Keith and Daniel. Since then, the Board of Trustees has expanded to include Max's grandchildren, and even his great- grandchildren, and extended family, ensuring the tradition of philanthropy extends for generations.
